What is the difference between a Physiotherapist and an Exercise Physiologist?

A physiotherapist is also a tertiary educated health professional who studied the human body however, their focus is on the diagnosis and early stage management of injuries. A physiotherapist will using testing just like Exercise Physiologists to diagnosis what condition you may have and then provide treatment. Their treatment may involve manual manipulation, ultrasound devices, hot and cold therapy and exercise. These exercises are often aimed at reducing pain, improving range of motion and helping you return to baseline.

As Exercise Physiologist our focus is on exercise delivery as you work through your recovery. We also assist in behaviour change to help you reach your goals. If you think of your rehabilitation as a continuum a Physiotherapist is perfectly suited for the acute and early stage management. Following this, you'll transition to an Exercise Physiologists who can assist with longer term management of health and exercise goals. Luckily at Wellness Through Movement we collaborate with a variety of Physiotherapists who specialise in different areas allowing us to ensure clients receive the best care possible.
